An Analysis on the Effect of the Group Education for Case Conceptualization

Abstract
This study was to analyse the effect of the group education for case conceptualization. After examining related studies, it was found that the group education on integrative case conceptualization model was necessary for novice counselors to learn common elements and then develop their own theory. Participants in this study consisted of 7 counselors of intern training program in A University. The participants took counselor developmental level assessment(understanding of case and counseling plan) and case conceptualization capability assessment before and after group education for case conceptualization. Also, they described the their experiences on the critical event questionnaire after each session of the group education. The study results showed that there were statistically significant differences between pre-test and post-test scores, respectively on counselor developmental level assessment(understanding of client's problem), counselor developmental level assessment(counseling plan), and case conceptualization capability assessment. Also based on analyzing critical event questionnaire, the helpful contents for the novice counselor in this group education were as following: ¡®Formulating tentative hypotheses for understanding client's problem by trivial clue with first client observation¡¯, ¡®Knowing the way of formulating counselor issues in the initial phase of counseling into case conceptualization¡¯, and ¡®Knowing how to do case conceptualization by connecting with psychological test and relevant information on client'. Finally, based on the above findings, the implications of study are discussed and a direction for future research is suggested.
